Morocco is a year-round destination, but the ideal time to visit depends heavily on which regions you plan to explore, since the climate can differ by 20°C between the coast, the Atlas Mountains, and the Sahara Desert on the very same day.
Spring (March to May) — The Best All-Round Season
Spring is widely considered the best time to visit Morocco. Temperatures in Marrakech, Fes, and the imperial cities hover between 20-27°C, wildflowers bloom in the Atlas foothills, and the desert is still comfortable for camel trekking and overnight camping in Merzouga or Zagora.
Autumn (September to November) — Second Best Window
After the summer heat fades, autumn offers similar mild conditions to spring, with clear skies ideal for photography in the Sahara dunes and hiking in the High Atlas around Imlil and Toubkal.
Summer (June to August) — Great for the Coast, Hot Inland
Summer temperatures in Marrakech and the desert can exceed 40°C, making midday sightseeing exhausting. However, coastal cities like Essaouira, Asilah, and Agadir stay pleasant thanks to Atlantic breezes, making this the season for beach lovers.
Winter (December to February) — Sahara Nights and Snow-Capped Peaks
Winter days in Marrakech and Fes remain mild (15-20°C), perfect for sightseeing without crowds. Desert nights in Merzouga get cold, so a good desert camp with heated tents matters. The High Atlas peaks around Toubkal are snow-capped, appealing to trekkers and even skiers at Oukaimeden.
Our Recommendation
For a first-time multi-day tour combining Marrakech, the Sahara Desert, and the Atlas Mountains, late March to early May or late September to November give the most comfortable temperatures across every stop on your itinerary.
