What to Pack for Morocco: Essential Packing List

Because a typical Morocco itinerary crosses cities, mountains, and desert, packing in layers is the key to comfort throughout your trip.

Clothing

Bring lightweight, breathable clothes for daytime city walking, a warm fleece or jacket for chilly desert nights and mountain evenings, and modest options (covered shoulders and knees) for visiting religious sites and rural areas.

Footwear

Comfortable walking shoes are essential for medina cobblestones; closed shoes or trainers work better than sandals for camel treks and dune walking, where sand gets everywhere.

Sun and Desert Protection

Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a scarf or hat are essential, particularly in the Sahara where there is no shade and reflection off the sand intensifies UV exposure.

Electronics and Adapters

Morocco uses Type C and E plugs (220V), the same standard as most of Europe. Bring a universal adapter if traveling from the UK, US, or Australia.

Money and Documents

Bring some cash in euros or US dollars for easy exchange, a copy of your passport, and your travel insurance details. ATMs are widely available in cities but scarce in remote desert areas.

What to Leave at Home

Revealing swimwear outside resort pools, drones (restricted in many areas without permits), and overly heavy luggage — most desert camps and riads have limited storage and narrow stairs.
