Day-by-Day Itinerary
Journey from Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate
Departure from Marrakech: The journey begins as you leave Marrakech, winding through the High Atlas Mountains and traversing the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The landscapes are impressive, with views of towering mountains, picturesque villages, and terraces. Explore Ait Benhaddou: A highlight of the first day is the stop at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Wander through unique clay structures, climb to the top for panoramic views, and discover the village’s rich history. Discovering Ouarzazate: Continue to Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Desert,” to explore Taourirt Kasbah and, optionally, Atlas Film Studios. Overnight stay with a traditional Moroccan dinner.
Ouarzazate to Dades Valley via Skoura and Rose Valley
Exploring the Skoura Oasis: Head toward the lush Skoura Oasis, visit Kasbah Amridil, and explore traditional Moroccan architecture. The Rose Valley: Continue to the Rose Valley, famous for its annual rose festival. Enjoy scenic landscapes filled with blooming roses (in spring). Arriving at Dades Valley: End the day in the Dades Valley (“Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs”), walk through the Dades Gorges, enjoy scenic views, and overnight in a cozy hotel.
Dades Valley to Merzouga Desert
Morning in Todra Gorges: Hike or walk along the breathtaking canyon with 300-meter cliffs and photograph the dramatic landscapes. Arrival in Merzouga and Camel Trekking: Prepare for a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Experience the vastness and beauty of the Sahara Desert. Desert Camp Experience: Enjoy a Moroccan dinner by the campfire, engage in traditional Berber music, storytelling, and stargazing under a clear desert sky.
Merzouga to Ouarzazate via Rissani and Alnif
Sunrise in the Desert: Witness a stunning sunrise over the Sahara, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4, and prepare for the journey back. Exploring Rissani: Visit the town’s lively souk and local monuments to learn about Moroccan culture. Drive through Alnif and Tazzarine: Pass through small towns with unique landscapes and fossil deposits, enjoy scenic oases and kasbahs, overnight in Ouarzazate.
Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Tizi n’Tichka
Visit to Kasbah Tifoultoute: Explore this historical fortress near Ouarzazate and enjoy beautiful mountain views. Return Journey through the High Atlas Mountains: Travel back along Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping at scenic viewpoints and small Berber villages. Capture the landscapes and experience local hospitality. Arrival in Marrakech: Conclude the adventure in the late afternoon with memories of an authentic Moroccan journey.
